In late 2013 I was contacted by Jodi Winnwalker, co-owner of Earthtones Music Therapy Services in Portland, Oregon. Jodi wanted to discuss refreshing their Earthtones logo. After learning that music therapy addresses physical, psychological, cognitive, and social needs for people of all ages, I was honored to give them a hand.
When I received the files for the existing Earthtones logo I could see why they needed to update it. The colors were washed out and lifeless. There was little depth to the graphics. This was not a helpful tool to promote a music therapy service provider! After all, their work ins intended to bring new life to people through music.

I went to work, but soon there was a delay. It happens. But they were back in early 2014. They were so happy with how this one was coming along that they asked me to create a new logo for their fledgling Chirp! early childhood music program! Being an arts advocate, I know how valuable this type of program is for child cognitive development. Jodi put me in touch with the program’s director, Keeley St.Clair, and we went to work. See this post for more about the Chirp! logo project.
Jodi contacted me again in early 2014 to finish the details. I added shading to the planet for greater depth and dimension. We finalized the colors for a richer look. For the final polish, we changed the notes so they would actually “play.” We completed our collaboration in May of 2014.
Here are the final versions of the Earthtones logo. The horizontal version is designed for letterhead and business cards. The square version is made for social media profile pictures. You can see it in use on their website, earthtonesmusictherapy.com/

Music therapy improves the quality of life for persons who are well and meets the needs of children and adults with disabilities or illnesses. Might you or someone you love benefit from music therapy? I was very impressed by the dedication of these people. I suggest you call Earthtones Music Therapy Services for information. If you live in the Greater Portland area, Wilsonville or Salem, Oregon, or SW Washington, you can make an appointment to see them personally and establish care!
